Gary Olson (BFA, MFA, Program Director of Print Media at Alberta College of Art and Design) and Dacia Fauth (BFA) enjoyed teaching the one day printmaking workshop in July so much that they are returning for a two day workshop.
You can chose either or both days. If you took the first workshop, you will really enjoy Day Two on Sunday. The cost for the two days is $150. Each day separately is $80. Lunch each day is $7 and the steak BBQ supper on Saturday is $12.There is enough accommodation in the Art Centre for six people. Each night is $30 and that includes a continental breakfast.
If you come with a friend, you will each save 10%.
The Itinerary is as follows:
SATURDAY, AUGUST 25th
Morning – 9am
Introduction to workshop with examples of projects and handouts -
explanation of printmaking projects
Research field trip - sketching, drawing, painting, photography in
preparation for printmaking
(This field trip will be to the Robsart Ghost Town as well as the
general farm environment.)
Afternoon
Studio - printmaking
Mono print project and lino cut (mipoleum) project.
Mipoleum plates will be drawn and cut during this session.
(There may be some basic collograph techniques introduced during the
first day.)
Finish at 5 pm
BBQ to follow.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 26th
Morning 9 am.
Studio - printmaking
Lino/Mipol
Puzzle color project.
The linocut project will be an edition of prints. Every participant
in the workshop will receive an impression from each edition. Also,
the drawing on the mipoleum may be done in the field on the first day
of the workshop.
Afternoon
Studio - printmaking
Lino cut project printing
Stencil printing project.
The Journal - The only
materials workshop participants will need to bring for the artist's journal are
a sketchbook and general art supplies - pencils, brushes, cutting utensils,
etc. The journal (sketchbook) should be no smaller than 5" X 7" and no larger than about
10" X 15".
Printmaking - In printmaking we are asking students to bring watercolour paints -
yellow, red and blue (the three primaries) plus black. The watercolours
will be used for mono prints. We will supply all printmaking materials for both
mono prints and relief printmaking.
I believe that retreat
participants will enjoy working in their journals and making prints as well as
painting. These two creative activities will make the workshop experience
far more interesting, exciting and satisfying than painting on canvas
exclusively.
Paper - For printmaking, students may want to supply their own printmaking papers - however, we will bring some printmaking papers with us for the students to use. There are many good printmaking rag papers available in art stores: Rives BFK, Arches, Copperplate, German etching... In conclusion, workshop participants will need a journal/sketchbook and five canvases as required supports for painting. Any supports beyond the journal and five canvases will be left up to each individual student. Of course, it is always useful to have more than the minimal
required supports to work on."
